One idea I have for my article in project 4 is to use the topic about stereotyping in the media. I'll interview movie goers and movie lovers as well as civil activists.
I'll analyze past and present films as well as television.
This is just the beginning of my idea; a work in progress.

A Day In The Plight of a Vegan
This image represents a world consumed by carnivorous appetites and one person stands to face their opponent in the wake of their personal choice. This piece is metaphoric since the carnivorous appetite is represented by a giant meat monster and the vegan is represented by a lone hero with a carrot shaped sword. My inspiration comes from a metaphoric work by Seok-Hoon Jeong from Korea. In that peice, there was a sign bearing the statement STOP FOREST CRIME in big bold letters. The sign was merged into bark shavings at the bottom edge with a 'bleeding' tree stump overlapping the image. This piece helped me to ponder the potential I had with composing a work that expressed my personal choice in becoming a vegan.
When I was five years old my brothers and my mom were already on a healthy path. They began learning more and more of the issues faced with daily meat consumption; parasitic agents exist within meats if not properly cooked, the puss from slaughter could still leave residue on the meats, etc. Before I learned any of that, however, I was simply offered five bucks to “Leave the pig alone”. So at five years of age I became a vegan and five dollars richer. I have no regrets and will never go back.

Project 3

I've decided to revise my first project since the second project is so vague and confusing. The first project gives room to express my individuality and I don't have to conform to a specific medium. In my revision I'll keep the theme of my choice in becoming a vegetarian, but I've decided to do it in illusration. The drawing will represent my personal feelings as a vegan in a world consumed by carnivorous appetites. I will be working solo to complete this task.

I want to do this with my art and make it into a sort of metaphor.

I voted early and my vote went to Barack Obama. I have to say that I am proud and confident in the decision I made. Obama knows what is best for the country and he just makes politics plain, simple and fair. The United States will benefit greatly with Obama as president. That old nonsense of trickle down wealth will finally stop. The middle working class will at last get the tax cuts needed to bring the country back up to speed and and we'll have a president that is able to sit down and negotiate with other world leaders.

It is truly astounding to observe the inhabitants of this stand alone planet. None are more astounding to observe than the humans! I have seen them do some strange yet fascinating rituals like 'go to work' or 'watch the game'. I myself would like to partake in the odd pastime of the 'Playstation 3'. Even though our race invented the technology for this console and its quite out dated by our standards, I'd still like to sample this little creation theirs.
Even with all the wonders and brilliance I've witnessed of humans I'm still baffled by one plunder of mankind. Perhaps the most absolute strangest activity I've seen of mankind is 'War'. This has to be the biggest mistake of this species! I'm sure that everyone on the planet would like to live coopertiveyl amongst each other, but the violence confuses me to no end! I've witnessed intergalactic battles between planets, but never have I seen war amongst the inhabitants of the same planet. The point is that I'm a little worried about what you're all doing, fascinating as you may be. You share the same Earth, don't ruin it! We may have to intervene at some point....
Why am I so concerned you might ask? Thats another story.

Whale Rider Questions

1. Koro did not recognize Pai's natural attraction to the sea. Pai also wanted to become a whale rider initially, and Koro disregarded that from the start. Also when pai recovered the necklace

2. Rawiri had become closer to his family again. He spent more time with his daughtter and became more empathetic of his father's feelings.

3. This scene showed the strength and determination that Pai has even though everyone else saw a bleak situation for the whale.

4. in the hospital, Koro is by Pai's bedside and allows her to wear the necklace. Koro even says the prayer for her.

5. The waka is signifcant because it creates the rights to passing for the new whale rider.
The part of this scene that struck me the most was that it showed the collectiveness of the community. Furthermore all of the direct whale rider's family were on the boat, despite the turbulance their family had to getting there.

Johnny and Tyrone

In the case of Johnny and Tyrone murdering the five-year old Eric Morse, there is debate as to how extensive punishment should be. The defendents being only ten and eleven years of age, should recieve some time, but should be reformed through on-going counseling. The murder itself sounds like an accident, although the actions were on purpose. Johnny and Tyrone only a held Eric out the window, when one of their hands got bit did they let go.
Of course they should be shown the errors of their actions, but the punishment shouldn't do anymore damage to the two uninsightful children.

Orlan

The story of Orlan, as it relates to Sapatri, shows how stereotypes of beauty are commonly associated with women. The modesty shown with the veil, in Persepolis held the purpose of concealing beauty; a woman not wearing one would be considered distasteful. Orlan's interpretation expressed her mockery of the social norms of beauty and used her unique art form as a means of doing so.
The Teshigahara movie is similar to Orlan's art form in that they both use reconstructive surgery as a means to convey the message of appearance in society.
I feel that the stereotypes that people have created have become less valid by today's standards. Each day I witness individuals determining their own opinions of beauty. Some people, however, are easily influenced. The Media has the most influence within a societal construct, so whenever the media incorporates a 'new' trend there are still those who'll follow along.

Our America: Part 1

1. I remember that, within the interviews, LeAlan and Lloyd would ask the person's opinion of themselves. The conversations the two had amongst each other were warm and friendly. I felt as though I were part of the conversation.
2. I have no questions in which I can answer myself.
3.They are conveying the message to not judge them because of their situation, but realize that they to are people having an experience that may affect another in the same way.
4. For me, their message is loud and clear. I can sort of relate to them being judged.
5.LeAlan and Lloyd show us their world by doing on the spot interviews and just recording general conversations. They then take what they recorded and review it.

The community that Lloyd and LeAlan describe compared to the middle ages is just the same, or even worse. Their community is isolated and seperate from the other areas. For worse, they risk being shot or attacked just by walking around. Their ghetto is guarded by police surveillance. The only difference to account for would be that their community is within a modern time period. Ghettos and barrios carry negative connotations because of the historical meaning and how people relate that to certain communities. Ghettos and neighborhoods are communities in which people live, but because their names mean different thing, ghettos are often described as a less prosperous community. What sets a ghetto apart from other communities is what generally goes on within it.

2 possible Ideas for Project 1

One idea I have for project one is to create a collage pertaining to myself as an individual. The collage would contain my interests, hobbies, goals, and thing that define me as unique. I feel that when composing a self, one should be able describe oneself abstractly as well as concretely. So, a collage would definitely be a good abstract way to describe oneself.

The second idea I have is to create a video. This video would be sort of a documentary/reality film of how I go about completing tasks in my life. It would also show how I go about taking steps to achieve goals. In composing a self, it is important to know what goals you have for life and how one goes about achieving them as an individual. I feel that videography is a good way to show this.
